Reminder that such atrocities should not be forgotten ... warning that they’re not yet a thing of the past.

What the audience said:

The Island is a politically visceral piece of theatre based on a true story. This soaring, award-winning drama draws on the stories that linger from the notorious prison on Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated. How much pain does a state need to inflict before you fight it?  The year 2018 marks Nelson Mandela’s centenary year and Fio want to celebrate an influential historical icon and ask: Do we ever learn from those who came before us? This universal story attacks our ability to passively accept immoral laws and question what is happening to our current state and country.
The Fio Island tour went to five professional venues, two community spaces and two prisons. POWYS DANCE, LLANDRINDOD WELLS PILL MILLENNIUM CENTRE, NEWPORT FFWRNES, CARMARTHENSHIRE CHAPTER, CARDIFF BLACKWOOD MINERS’ INSTITUTE, THE LOWRY, MANCHESTER OASIS, CARDIFF & 2 Prisons HMP CARDIFF + HMP USK
