Summer 2019 Update
Okay, okay, we know it’s been a while but we’re here now so let’s get cracking so you guys are all caught up to speed!
It’s the start of a new and welcome season, Pimm’s is slowly being brought out and sometimes the sun even comes around. What better time to write a blog post in the midst of it all!
Looking back at ‘Timelines’ production..
This is also a time to look back on our last youth production called, ‘Timelines’, which was performed at the Weston Studio, Wales Millennium Centre on 26th April 2019. This piece centred almost entirely on the content present on the social media timelines of our young people. We explored body image, contemporary politics, the environment and what it means to be Cardiffians. Audience members noted that it was refreshing to see theatre that touches on “topics affecting young women but rarely talked about openly”.
Enter a renewed focus on our youth projects! The first one being..
Fio Presents: Cardiff’s Got Talent!
Hosted by Splott’s very own East Moors Youth Centre
This is a talent show like no other! (No really, we have to say that for legal reasons so Britain’s Got Talent don’t come for us). On Saturday 13th July, Fio will be showcasing some of the best young talent South Glamorgan has to offer. Not only do we have a range of diverse talent to show, we also have great food prepared by young people, a professional DJ and banging tunes and a variety of stalls and a crucial raffle! So if you want to come along to a great community event, we would love to see you down there!
Fio’s Summer Film School
23rd July - 9th August 2019, East Moors Youth Centre
Fast forward one week and we’re looking at the beginning of our Film Summer School (yipes!) With one week of film masterclasses, and the remaining fortnight of filming our first short film about county lines, this will be one busy film school! This incredible opportunity is available to young people aged 11-19 for only £30 with bursaries available. How awesome is that?
